PURPOSE

Getting to know libraries of parliaments of participating countries in terms of their collections, personnel, housing, technical infrastructure, budget, etc.

Laying the groundwork for sharing library resources, technical infrastructure and other services. Studying the ways that the parliaments operate, formats of legislation and control documents, the works on how the libraries service these documents as well as how other parliament libraries can benefit from these services.

Discussing the types of web based common platforms for service sharing. Sharing responsibilities for maintaining and updating the web based portal and determining strategies for development. Creating a medium for sharing views.

For this purpose workshop participants are requested to give a 15-20 minutes presentation on the subjects listed below.

  • How to organize printed and unprinted legislation and control documents and information.
  • In which medium and format are the printed and unprinted legislation and control documents and information serviced.
  • Introducing the libraries in terms of personnel, collection, software-hardware.
  • Preparing digital collection and introducing Web-Intranet facilities.
  • Other technical infrastructure facilities.
  • Statistical data pertaining to the library.

AT THE END OF THE WORKSHOP

Decisions will be taken on;

Establishing a common multilingual database comprising the terms used in parliaments (legislation-control) and titles utilized in libraries in order to

  • Share legislation and control documents and library resources through a common interface over the web.
  • Speed up scientific and statistical information sharing between administrative and political managements of parliaments.

Papers presented at the workshop and the final report will be published as proceedings.

At the end of the workshop, it is expected to form inter-nation working groups and take decision toward holding annual meetings hosted by alternating nations for sustaining cooperation.
