About Us
Mission of the Department of Research Services (Research Center) is to assist Members of Parliament (MPs) and committees in their legislative work by providing them with independent, objective and reliable research on current and emerging key issues.
The Research Center is a unit within the Administrative Organization of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (GNAT) under the Deputy Secretary General responsible for Information and Information Technologies
The main functions of the Research Center are specified in article 13 of the Law on Administrative Organization of the Assembly (Law No. 6253 dated 1.2.2011) as;
- o to conduct objective research about the topics related with legislative and oversight activities of the Assembly, and provide research materials to the MPs and committees,
- to respond the request from MPs for information,
- to collect information and documents related with legislative agenda,
- to participate in conferences and seminars related with area of competence and cooperate with national and international institutions.
The competencies and work of the Research Center are regulated by the "Regulation on the Conducting of Research Services of GNAT", No.32 dated 10.10.2012.
The primary objective of the Research Center is to support MPs by meeting their individual requests for their legislative and oversight activities. The end-products are also circulated for the use of committees. The requests from former MPs are welcomed only if they can be met with the existing products.
All kinds of research activities are guided by the Research Center Style Guide.
All catalog information regarding the information requests (subject, holder, deadlines, etc.) are registered on a database designed by Research Center and kept confidential.
